It was a privilege to join Welsh Guardsmen and their families at St Giles for the Falklands memorial service and wreath laying at Bodhyfryd.
This year is also poignant as Wrexham has been chosen as the place for a memorial to those Welsh Guardsmen and attached personnel who lost their lives in Operation Herrick 10 and 16 in Afghanistan. The memorial which was also unveiled on Saturday has been constructed from Welsh slate and will stand as a permanent reminder of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
I convened my latest meeting to understand the progress in improving the hospital parking situation at Wrexham Maelor hospital. I was pleased to hear an update on the work the Health Board is doing on this and I will continue to work for solutions on this issue. I know that there is a consensus amongst elected representatives in our area to see this resolved, this collective effort is welcome and important that it continues.
The Pride in Place Impact Funding which I secured for Wrexham will have a real effect on communities whether it is spent on facilities, play areas or the public realm. It was really encouraging to receive an update from Wrexham County Borough Council about the applications they have received from Community Councils across Wrexham and plans that have been submitted. It will be fantastic to see these projects come to fruition for the benefit of everyone.
Congratulations to Domestic Abuse Safety Unite (DASU) on their nomination for the Grassroots Community Award at the inaugural Prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Awards. The awards highlighted those individuals and organisations involved in advocacy, prevention and survivor support.
