Chester Racecourse's Social Weekend off to a flyer

THE Social Weekend was off to a flyer at Chester Racecourse on Friday with day of racing and entertainment.

The Allington Hughes Law Friday Social delivered a lively start to the Social Weekend as this year’s fixture introduced a refreshed atmosphere and new experiences that will shape the two days across the racecourse.  

The racecourse team has curated a more immersive experience than ever before, transforming the grounds into a hub of entertainment and summer energy, creating a vibrant backdrop to a competitive eight-racecard.

Steve Davies, chief operating officer at Chester Racecourse, said he and his staff were delighted with how the Social Weekend has started.

He said: “The Social Weekend is always one of the most enjoyable fixtures in our calendar.

“This year we’ve really focused on creating an energetic, open‑air experience that feels like the true start of summer.

“From the racing to the new entertainment and spritz menu, it’s been a great day of people coming together to unwind and enjoy everything that makes a day at Chester so special.”

A DJ on the Pavilion Lawn set the tone for the weekend, creating a soundtrack to carry guests from the first race to the final cheers.  

Alongside the racing action, visitors enjoyed shuffleboard, football tables, and a selection of party games that add a playful twist to the social atmosphere.

In a first for the racecourse, a brand new spritz menu debuted this weekend, bringing a fresh burst of summer flavour to the new ‘Paddock Social’ area that Tattersalls guests made full use of. 

On the track, racing began with a strong performance from Misson Command, who claimed the first race under Amy Millburn. 

Hector Crouch and Metamouse followed with an impressive win in The Juddmonte EBF Restricted Novice Stakes.

The afternoon’s third race delivered a standout performance from Morbeh, while Andrew Balding’s Crazee Icon took victory in a photo-finish fourth race. 

Miss Lady Grace triumphed in The Allington Hughes Law Handicap Stakes, while The Chester Fillies’ Handicap Stakes was claimed by Star Cast and Joanna Mason. 

With a top speed of 37.8mph, Start Me Up won The Allington Hughes 200 Year Anniversary Celebrations Handicap Stakes was won. 

In a second win of the day, Hector Crouch flew to victory on Not Me in the final race.  

The weekend continues on Saturday.
