Holywell-Chester bus passengers have lucky escape in crash

The incident occurred on Arriva's number 11 Holywell-Chester bus yesterday morning (Thursday, June 4).

The bus had left Holywell town centre five minutes prior to the incident and was travelling down Greenfield Road when it occurred.

Sue Hutchings, one of the passengers on the bus, said the bus collided with a wall next to the road.

"There was scraping noise on the windows and door and then they just shattered," she said.

"The glass went everywhere and there were large shards of it. There were also blocks from the wall which entered on to the bus.

"There were two babies in prams towards the front of the bus, and it's miraculous that they weren't hurt."

Sue said one elderly lady on the bus suffered cuts to her legs, but no one else was hurt.

"It's amazing that no one else was injured," she said. "It was a traumatic experience for everyone on board, and we were all shaken up. I feel sorry for the bus driver, he was so apologetic and was checking on everyone.

"We had to exit at the back of the bus as the front door was completely battered."

A spokesperson for Arriva Cymru said: "One of our buses was involved in a collision on the number 11 route this morning. We are sorry to hear that one passenger sustained a minor injury.

“We’re investigating the circumstances."
