Paul Hollywood has broken his silence on Nigella Lawson joining him on the Great British Bake Off on Channel 4.

The TV cook and food writer was named as the replacement for outgoing judge and Cotswolds resident Dame Prue Leith last month.

Ms Lawson read Modern Languages at Oxford University's Lady Margaret Hall, edited the student magazine Isis, later saving it from financial trouble, and graduated in 1979.

A portrait of the food writer was then hung in the very same Oxford college, installed in 2018, to inspire students.

Mr Hollywood has been a judge since the very first series of the Great British Bake Off back in 2010, when it was broadcast on the BBC.

He originally worked with Henley resident Dame Mary Berry before Cotswolds local Dame Prue Leith replaced her.

Now the 59-year-old has shared his thoughts for the first time on Ms Lawson's recruitment, singing her praises during a Channel 4 press event.

Via RadioTimes, Mr Hollywood said: "She knows what she's talking about.

"Both Mary [Berry] and Prue have amazing taste-buds and a huge depth of knowledge of what they're talking about, and Nigella [is] exactly the same, comes from the same mould.

"It comes down to bringing your knowledge and also your warmth – both Mary and Prue brought their warmth, and I'm sure Nigella's going to do exactly the same, to make the bakers feel at ease."
