Broughton Youth Club's new scheme receives backing

Broughton Youth Club in Flintshire is running the scheme with support from the Your Community, Your Choice fund, which uses money seized from criminals to benefit local communities.

On Sunday, June 9, the club welcomed North Wales police and crime commissioner Andy Dunbobbin and other guests to Broughton and Bretton Community Centre to showcase the project and their wider work with young people.

The club, based at Brookes Avenue, provides a safe space for 11 to 17-year-olds to socialise and take part in activities that support their personal development.

Its winning project, Positive Vibes, Positive Choices, was selected through a public vote and focuses on art and wellbeing.

The club plans to offer art sessions, boxing tasters, STEM activities, dance, scouting, and physical wellbeing programmes.

The project also seeks to introduce the young people to positive role models and raise awareness of opportunities available in the community.

During the visit, Mr Dunbobbin met club treasurer Rachel Allen, Flintshire Youth Service staff, and school and community immersion worker Laura Wright.

He also attended the project’s first art and wellbeing session, delivered in partnership with Theatr Clwyd.

"Young people are our future and it is important that we invest in them and in promoting positive lifestyle choices."

PACT chairman Ashley Rogers said: "Your Community, Your Choice is all about empowering communities to decide where money is spent that will benefit good causes in their neighbourhood.

"Broughton Youth Club is a shining example of an organisation with a positive vision for its area and for supporting young people."

The Your Community, Your Choice fund is supported by the PCC, North Wales Police, and the North Wales Police and Community Trust.

Funding is partly sourced from money seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act, with the remainder provided by the commissioner.
