IT was a brilliant day for Wrexham as the Tour of Britain Women came to town.

Hundreds of residents lined the streets as almost 90 riders set off on a 140km trek across Wrexham, Cheshire and Denbighshire before finishing on Chester Street in the centre of the town.

Wrexham was celebrating hosting a stage of the women's race for the first time, having held the men's version in September last year.

Fans cheered the riders off at 11.15am and welcomed them back shortly after 3pm, as Lotte Kopecky made it back to back wins in Wrexham.

The sun was shining on what proved to be a brilliant day of cycling for the fans in attendance.

Wrexham residents were out in force as the raced passed through Llay, Gresford, Rossett, Holt, Bangor on Dee, Overton, Penley, Johnstown, Ruabon, Llangollen, Minera and Rhostyllen before heading back into the city centre.
