Pets hoping for adoption from Flintshire rescue centre

North Clwyd Animal Rescue (NCAR) have cats, dogs, horses and some smaller animals, all hoping to find their forever home.

The staff and volunteers at the Trelogan-based charity, in Flintshire, know the animals as individuals, and therefore know what kind of home they are more likely to thrive in.

Whether it's a dog, cat, rabbit or horse, staff are on hand to advise on the character and suitability of each.

They also make sure potential new owners are aware of the ongoing costs of a pet, including food and vet bills, which can often be for unexpected treatment.

But thankfully there are plenty of responsible, loving people and families looking to give an animal a loving new home.

And there are always animals of all types, ages and needs that will be the perfect match.

Here we meet just some of those at NCAR looking for a new home...

• Two-year-old Pepper is a friendly girl who enjoys meeting new people, she can be a little unsure of some men but is fine when she approaches in her own time. She is a looking for an adult only home where she will get a lot of attention. Pepper is very energetic, and shows a lot of the typical breed characteristics. She doesn't have good recall and can be hard to catch when she is off lead in unsecure areas. She is looking for an active home with people who do plenty of walking, she would be the perfect adventure buddy. She gets on well with other dogs and seems to enjoy their company, we feel she has the potential to live with a compatible dog as long as the introductions went well here at the rescue. Pepper travels well in the car and is okay being left at home on her own for a few hours. She is still undergoing some house training which will need to be continued when she goes to her new home.

• Micky is a lovely lad who came into our care due to his owner's ill health. He is still settling in here but so far he has been a nice boy who likes to be stroked and loves his food. He has been used to a quiet home with one person, so is looking for a quiet home again this time. He can potentially be rehomed with teenagers. He has been kept indoors only so far but we do feel he will be able to adapt to going outdoors as long as his new home was in a quiet area away from roads.

• Iris is a sweet girl who came to the rescue via another rescue. She originally came from Cyprus to the uk in September of 2022, and has been in kennels since. She is a big girl who can be very nervous of people at times. Sudden movements can cause her to cower away submissively. She is a really sweet girl who will need a calm and gentle home where she can learn to trust and to be confident in new situations. We were told by the previous rescue she is dog reactive, however, initial tests here show this can be easily overcome. She is strong on the lead when she does react, so would be beneficial if somebody is use to strong big dogs or can cope with this. She could potentially live with older teenagers who are calm and understand to take things at her pace. She is a lovely girl with the best run in the paddock when she gets 'zoomies' and loves to chase a tennis ball.

• Oliver is a handsome lad who came into our care due to his owner moving house. He has been used to a quiet home without many visitors and is looking for a quiet home again this time too, as a busy house will be overwhelming for him. He has been kept indoors only but we do feel like he would adapt to venturing outside if he went to live in the right area. Oliver can be nervous at times but is friendly once he is familiar with you, we feel an adult home only would suit him. He will suit a cat-savvy owner who will let him settle in at his own pace, now he has settled here in the cattery he is showing his cheeky, playful personality and does enjoy attention. He hasn't lived with other animals before, so may be best as the only pet in the home. Oliver is semi-longhaired so will require some grooming occasionally to ensure he doesn't get matted.

• Osian is a really handsome boy who came into our care as a stray, and wasn't claimed. He is a friendly boy who likes meeting new people but can be quite shy sometimes, he doesn't take long at all to come around though! He can also be very excitable with people he is confident with and will jump up quite a lot. He is looking for a home with sensible children 12+ who are comfortable around boisterous dogs. Osian has met a variety of dogs since being in our care and he does interact well with them, he definitely lacks some social skills though but is already learning how to read other dogs' behaviour better. We feel he does have the potential to live with a compatible dog as long as the introductions go well here at the rescue. He can be quite strong on lead and will benefit from further lead training when he goes to a new home. He is looking for an active home where he will get plenty of mental stimulation and physical exercise in order to meet his needs.

• Bruce is a lovely lad who has been signed over to our care due to a relationship split, he is very friendly and affectionate. He is looking for a home with a good outdoor space to explore once he has settled in as he has previously been used to venturing outside in his previous home. Bruce can be rehomed with sensible children 12+ who will respect his space as he settles in. He has lived with other cats before but didn't always get on with them, especially around meal times, so we feel he will be happier as the only cat in the home this time. Overall he is a lovely lad and we hope a suitable home comes along soon for him.
