A MAN with a history of violent offending has been jailed after attacking a woman at a train station.

Lee Bromilow, of Boars Head in Ewloe, appeared for sentence at Mold Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The 31-year-old had been found guilty after trial of one offence of assault by beating, and had admitted two further such offences at a previous hearing.

Prosecutor Rhian Jackson told the court all three crimes related to the same victim; Jessica McKinnon.

Ms McKinnon began speaking to the defendant in 2022 via social media and she "knew of his violent history" before engaging in a relationship with him.

At the beginning, he appeared "charming" and "seemed nice," so the victim believed he must have changed.

But on August 4 last year, they met up, had some drinks and smoked some cannabis before going back to his home.

Whilst there, an argument ensued which involved him spitting in her face.

This was the offence proved after trial - which the defendant did not attend.

Ms Jackson said the following two offences were committed whilst Bromilow was on police bail with conditions not to contact the victim or approach her.

But he went out with her in August - and they went for drinks around Wrexham city centre.

The assaults were captured on CCTV when both parties went to Wrexham General Railway Station.

Once again, they engaged in an argument which was followed by him leaning in and appearing to spit at her, as well as punching her with force while she was prone on the platform.

During the incident, both parties were seen getting down onto the tracks.

In his explanation of the offences, Bromilow claimed the victim had thrown his mobile phone onto the tracks, and he claimed his actions had been in self defence.

Ms Jackson stated that throughout the incident, Bromilow had been seen attempting to walk away from the victim and she had followed him several times.

The victim was also seen to punch and spit at the defendant on the CCTV footage, the court heard.

It was pointed out that he was "visibly seen telling her to leave him alone," but that in the end he had "lost his temper" with her.

In his own words, Bromilow had spoken to his solicitor prior to the sentencing of the need to address his alcohol use, which he described as his "real issue."

The court was asked to take into account the defendant's guilty pleas to two of the assault matters, which would attract credit in his sentence.

It was also said on his behalf that in terms of the trial, he had not attended because he "overslept that morning."

Deputy District Judge Paul Conlon told the defendant: "Whilst intoxicated, in public and in front of people waiting for trains, you assaulted her.

"Particularly in the final assault, you delivered a punch to her while she was prone on the platform - with force - clearly causing her injury.

The Leader:

"I must take into account your record of violent offending.

"The offending is so serious it warrants an immediate term of imprisonment."

As such, the Judge handed down a total custodial sentence of 14 weeks, as well as a 12 month restraining order to protect the victim.

He must also pay £154 in compensation on his release.
