Plans to create a new gym on Wrexham Industrial Estate could help to create up to 70 jobs, it's been claimed.

An application has been submitted to Wrexham Council to convert two industrial units on Abenbury Way into a gym.

Body Tech Fitness, which is behind the proposals, already has branches in Winsford and Ellesmere Port in Cheshire.

The company is now looking to expand by catering to workers on the city's industrial estate.

According to documents filed with the local authority, the gym would be open 24 hours a day with up to 50 customers expected to use the facilities at peak times.

In a planning statement, a representative for the gym firm said: “The selection of Wrexham Industrial Estate as the site for Body Tech Fitness is strategic, considering it stands as one of the largest industrial zones in Europe.

“We intend to capitalise on the substantial foot traffic characteristic of such a location.

“Our overarching aim is to enhance the well-being, both physical and mental, of the local workforce, thereby contributing value to the existing 300 businesses within Wrexham Industrial Estate.

“We are committed to offering preferential rates to employees of the estate, aligning with our ethos encapsulated in our motto, 'The People's Gym’”.

The proposals state that the units were chosen due to their proximity to the A483, A55 and M56.

The company said the links to the road network would make it convenient for people from Chester and the wider North Wales area to access the gym.

Representatives added that the opening hours would also make it easy for people to use the facilities whenever they want.

In regards to employment numbers, they said: “Our core objective is to not only benefit our members but also make a meaningful contribution to the broader community.

“Body Tech Fitness Wrexham is projected to require approximately ten permanent staff members, complemented by an estimated 50-60 self-employed professionals, owing to our innovative personal training framework.

“Distinguishing ourselves from larger gym chains, we do not impose rental charges on our personal trainers, thereby eliminating a significant barrier to entry for newcomers to the industry or those experiencing difficulties.

“Additionally, we anticipate roles for cafe staff, cleaning personnel, maintenance teams, and various other employment opportunities, providing avenues for local employment in Wrexham.”

A decision will be made on the plans by the council at a later date.
