READERS have had their say on some of Flintshire's worst areas for potholes.

The Leader reported recently on the concerns of Buckley Councillor Carol Ellis, who has been trying to get two such potholes at the junction of Muirfield Road and Mold Road in her ward repaired.

She raised concern about the impact on motorists, who sometimes feel the need to swerve around them.

We asked Leader readers on our Facebook page to tell us where they think the county's worst potholes are. Here's what they had to say...

Graham Maloney said: "Driving a car is like doing the warm up lap at the Grand Prix with the need to continually swerve to avoid all the potholes."

Heidi Jayne Caron said: "Liverpool Road from Buckley to Ewloe."

Jewels Ponton said: "The whole of Flintshire is shocking!"

Jim Evans said: "Potholes are the worst I have ever seen them. There are some really deep ones at the traffic lights in New Brighton. The council say they have no money. If only they hadn’t had to waste millions on unnecessary 20mph signs."

Matt Longstaff said: "There are too many too mention, especially down road to Dobshill"

Dean Dallolio said: "A548 from the packet house in Greenfield all the way to Prestatyn - absolute joke of a road. Plus the flooding issues makes it even worse."

Stuart Perry said: "The approach to Dobshill roundabout from Buckley, Drury near the junction of beach road down to the farm, main road Broughton just coming off the main Broughton roundabout past the old entrance to Airbus, towards Tesco roundabout - and the list goes on. Makes it worse when you're trying to dodge them and not break the 20mph or hit a cyclist."

Lainey Ellis: "Which roads are the worst? All of them Flintshire, Wrexham, Denbighshire. I've never seen the roads in this state - it's almost like they don't want us to drive anywhere or own cars."

Martyn Coldray said: "I reported New Brighton lights, they were repaired within days. But looking at the job done will be back again in a few weeks. Now to repair the big ones on Tesco roundabout Mold, the two craters on Ewloe roundabout coming from Buckley - they've been there a for a couple of months. Another one at Aldi Mold quite a sharp one. Dobshill needs resurfacing, not repaired - they repair them with cheap c*** and fail within weeks. You cannot blame bad weather; last winter as we didn't have much snow and many frosts."

Following Cllr Ellis' concerns, a Flintshire Council spokesman said: "Scheduled safety inspections take place on all adopted roads in the county.

"During these inspections officers will determine whether any defects meet our invention criteria in accordance with Flintshire County Council’s Policy for Highway and Car Park Safety Inspections.

"The winter weather adversely affects our roads, leading to road damage and the formation of potholes. As such the County Council will be deploying additional resources to address areas of concerns.

"These works, which includes machine patching, have already began.

"While we recover from the winter period, resources will focus on the defects that have a significant impact on highway users, other defects, such as potholes that are not of a depth above 40mm are recorded and remedial works will take place as soon as resources allow.

"The Council values public reports of road issues between inspections to help prioritise repairs, and would encourage members of the public to report any potholes to Streetscene Contact Centre at 01352 701234."
