A FORMER Wrexham mayor has embraced his creative side and is now on the look out for somewhere to share his work.

With the onset of spring, Cllr Ronnie Prince has been busy completing a number of pieces of artwork depicting the colourful season and the emerging biodiversity.

He said: "I am a self taught artist who loves to paint when time allows. I find it very therapeutic and helps me to relax and unwind.

"Growing up my mother said to me 'Ronnie, everyone needs a hobby to keep their mind occupied'. I could add to that and say, everyone should have an interest that inspires them, whatever that might be.

"A lot of people are going through some tough times at the moment and if my artwork encouraged some of them to take up a new hobby, whatever that might be, that would be a positive thing.

"I've always loved butterflies, because they remind us that it's never too late to transform ourselves. Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a beautiful butterfly."

This is not the first time Cllr Prince, who covers the Cartrefle Ward, has been involved in one way or another with the beauty of nature.

He said: "I previously organised the planting of several wildflower habitats on Cefn Road in Caia Park to help with biodiversity, and every year since we have had a wonderful display of colourful flowers. Hopefully this year it will be equally as good."

Cllr Ronnie Prince was behind one of the first wildflower growing schemes in Wrexham, at the side of Cefn Road.

Cllr Prince says his aim is to share his work, adding: "I would like to use my paintings in an educational setting to inspire people of all ages to maybe take up painting for themselves and also to get the message out there on how beautiful the natural environment really is.

"Biodiversity is so good for our health and wellbeing and if you look for it, you can find it and it's free.

"I've produced that many paintings I'll have to decide what to do with them before they take over all the wall space in my house.

"I'm working on a few ideas on where to display them for the public to see them up close. I would be open to offers on where to display my butterfly paintings."
