CONCERNS have been raised about residents repairing vehicles in the street in a Wrexham village.

The Leader reported last year how the issue was taking place in Llay, with potential risk to road users raised by community leaders.

Llay Community Council has been discussing the matter at recent meetings and County Councillor Bryan Apsley confirmed it has started up again in the area of Council Street/Tenth Avenue, near Stubby's Fish.

He explained: "Last year, there were people working on cars in the street and there is a pull-in which is very useful for people visiting the chip shop - we had instances where we had to clear it up, with oil on the rad and sand and all sorts.

"There were also people lying under the cars working on them with their legs sticking out into the road, which was a danger to themselves.

"That was all last year, but it's causing problems again now.

"It's gotten very busy in that area and some of the councillors have reported more activity.

"It's happening close to a junction and a busy corner and is spread out further on occasions.

"I don't want to stop anyone making a few bob repairing cars, but it's certainly not safe to do it where they are and I will be involving council officers again rather than the police.

"It obviously could become a police matter if someone gets hurt."

A Wrexham Council spokesman said: "We are aware of this ongoing issue, and this is being dealt with accordingly.”
