RESIDENTS in Wrexham have spoken further on the "frustrations" felt after over £2,000 of damage was caused to a village green and forest school.

Last month, the Leader reported that residents in Llwyneinion were "heartbroken" after an area of the village green was 'destroyed' following months of hard work.

The 56 Wrexham councillors voted unanimously in September 2022 that Llwyneinion Woods should become a village green and form part of Wrexham's Open Spaces. It was then formally opened in May 2023.

Since then, Lottery funding has been secured, and work on restoring the woodland has taken place.

Contractors from Ruthin had been on-site adding fencing to secure the site so that the local Primary school, Ysgol Maes y Mynydd could use the woodland as a Forest School, with plans to further improve the site in the pipeline.

But following "substantial damage", on February 22, plans have had to be scaled back to address the broken fences.

The estimated costs to purchase and install the materials as well as the addition of security measures totals £2,200, which was meant to be spent on plants and other items to improve the green.

Gail Jones, a local resident said: "It's very frustrating, we were hoping to be much further ahead by now.

"We have a team of volunteers, unfortunately, nothing can be done until the fencing contractors have returned to repair the damage and replace the gate.

"The conditions are perfect for planting and sowing seeds right now, if we are delayed much longer, the children won't be able to create and enjoy their wildflower meadow this year.
