A manager is being sought to run a market and arts centre in Wrexham in a bid to boost income.

Wrexham Council is advertising for a full-time operations and markets manager to oversee the delivery of services at Tŷ Pawb in the city centre.

It follows concerns being raised over the financial sustainability of the centre earlier this month after a report showed it was facing a predicted budget pressure of £298,000.

Senior councillors said lower-than-expected income levels and increased energy costs of £144,000 were the main causes for the anticipated shortfall.

The successful applicant for the post, which comes with a salary of between just under £39,200 to £42,400 per year, would be tasked with managing 18 market stalls, five cafes and bars and 14 retail units within the building.

Other responsibilities include running the 323-space multi-storey car park located above Ty Pawb and supporting the centre's advisory board to develop it as "a successful arts, market and community facility".

A job advert posted on the council's website states: “An exciting opportunity to manage a dynamic team in one of the jewels of Wrexham city centre has arisen.

“Tŷ Pawb is a multi-award winning, cultural community resource, bringing together arts and markets within the same footprint.

“The Tŷ Pawb Operations Manager is required to take the lead for managing the operational procedures and delivery of services at both Tŷ Pawb and the Memorial Hall.

“The successful operational delivery for both buildings embracing commercial opportunities is a key fundamental of the role.”

Discussing the centre's finances, deputy council leader David A Bithell said earlier this month that there was a need for the centre to be run sustainably.

The local authority is currently facing significant financial challenges which has led to all services coming under review.

He said: “If any service, not just Ty Pawb, is not sustainable then they are under review, it's as simple as that.

“That's the conundrum we're in at the moment, if it's not sustainable you either cease it, stop it, or close it.”

Overall, the post holder for the management role would be responsible for overseeing a team of two centre support officers, four caretakers, and front of house staff.

In addition, they will be required to manage the cleaning, security and maintenance of the building, deal with customers and tenants and meet "challenging" income targets.

As well as Ty Pawb, they would also be expected to manage the city's indoor Butcher's and General markets and the outdoor Monday market.
