Wrexham thief stole Apple watch and phone at bus station

Tomasz Borejko, of Maesgwyn Road, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

The 26-year-old had admitted one offence of theft at a previous hearing.

Prosecutor Justin Espie told the court that on July 30 last year, a man named Ryan Dodd had been on a night out in Wrexham.

He fell asleep in the city centre's bus station in the early hours of the morning.

When Borejko walked past, he noticed the sleeping man, and helped himself to his Apple watch and his mobile.

Mr Dodd later came around and realised his items had been taken, reporting the matter to the police.

The mobile was found and returned to him - but the watch, worth £400, was not.

Borejko admitted the offence when he was eventually found in November.

Emma Simoes, defending, told the court her client was "down on his luck," having split up with his partner and found himself "on the streets."

She said: "He took the opportunity to try and make some money and isn't proud of his actions.

"He is now back with his partner. This was an isolated incident.

"There has been no repeat of his behaviour since and hopefully we won't see this man before the court again."

District Judge Gwyn Jones told the defendant: "Clearly Mr Dodd had fallen asleep in the bus station and you took the opportunity of stealing his watch and phone - which are no doubt considered extremely important to Mr Dodd.

"It was a mean offence."

Borejko was fined £150 and ordered to pay £400 compensation to the victim.

He must also pay £85 costs.
