WREXHAM Council is inviting residents to have their say on the reintroduction of car parking charges in the city centre.

The authority has launched a public consultation over reintroduction of parking charges within council operated city centre car parks from April 1, 2024.

Currently all council run car parks in the city centre except Tŷ Pawb are free to use after 11am. This was set up to support key workers and city centre businesses both during and after the coronavirus pandemic. ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌

The council said it is now in a position where it is having to revisit this as it looks to find savings and efficiencies to deal with a budget shortfall of £22.6m next year. It’s proposed that charges for parking after 11am will come into effect from April.

This statutory consultation will run from February 9 until March 8.

Cllr Mark Pritchard, leader of Wrexham Council, said: “We’re continuing to look at lots of different ideas and opportunities that will help us to find savings, and the reintroduction of car parking charges from April 1 is regretfully something we’ve had to look at.

"We’re committed to supporting shoppers, visitors and businesses by keeping these charges fair and we welcome everyone to take part in our consultation on this.”
