SEVERAL Wrexham schools have made the decision to close amid the poor weather conditions forecast for today (February 8).

Multiple schools across the Wrexham county have announced their closure as snow continues to disrupt.

Follow our weather blog here.

The closures come during an amber weather alert for north and mid Wales which will last from 8am until 3pm  today.

Here is an updated list from Wrexham Council:

  • Ysgol Y Grango (closed)

  • Ysgol Clywedog (closed)

  • Brynteg CP (closed)

  • Minera Church in Wales Voluntary Aided School (closed)

  • Rhosnesni High School (closed)

  • St Mary's School Church in Wales Voluntary Aided School, Brymbo (partially closed)

The decisions have been made due to complications as a result of inclement weather and staff shortages.

St Mary's remains partially closed for reasons of insufficient staff cover, also.

A spokesperson from St Mary's said: "Due to the current weather conditions, the school will be closed from 12.30pm today after all children have received their dinner. If any parents/guardians are travelling from further afield, you may pick your child/ children up sooner.

"Please take extra care if driving towards the school, as the grit on Ael-Y-Bryn road was washed away this morning. School have tried to grit the footpaths leading to school and onsite, but please take extra care.
