A DEAF student from Wrexham is proud to be hosting a charity fundraiser in aid of the Deaf Children's Society.

On Thursday, February 1 at 7pm student Tegan Evans is hosting a six-course silent meal along at the Iâl Restaurant all in the name of raising funds for the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS).

After losing her hearing from the age of 5 due to a gene mutation, the 18-year-old is determined to do everything she can to support others and raise awareness. See Tegan's JustGiving page here.

Tegan said: "Being deaf has not been easy and is even harder growing up with it constantly changing. I very much struggle in school but I didn’t want to say anything as I didn’t want my hearing to be the thing I was known for.

"I was lucky to be part of the NDCS from a young age. As well as supporting me with my hearing journey they have an amazing community of people who are deaf / suffer with hearing loss.

"In 2020 I was lucky enough to be part of the youth advisory board where we campaign and work with some amazing people the support deaf/ hearing loss community. Our campaign was about teaching training as most teachers in the UK do not have the right training to support a deaf / hearing loss person."

The event will be held at the Iâl Restaurant located on Chester Road on the Coleg Cambria Campus in Wrexham - but will be far from an ordinary dining experience.

Guests will be provided with ear plugs to wear throughout the evening as Tegan hopes to encourage everyone to explore alternate communication methods and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by the deaf community.

At £35pp, the six-course tasting menu will be carefully curated to tantalize the taste buds and showcase a diverse range of flavors and textures.
