A HIGHLY-successful male voice choir based in North Wales has proudly appointed a new president.

The "changing of the guard" means the time has come for a new face to fill the boots of the Trelawnyd Male Voice Choir's president.

Holywell-born Hollywood star Sir Jonathan Pryce CBE has willingly accepted the position and said he feels proud to support his fellow countrymen, succeeding Lord Owain Langford.

In an announcement shared on Facebook, a choir spokesperson said: "We are delighted to announce that Sir Jonathan Pryce CBE has agreed to become its President.

"He recently attended the choir's 90th anniversary concert with his wife Kate and afterwards, spoke to our MD Ann Atkinson and choir members.

"Having once portrayed the President of the United States in G.I. Joe (2008), Jonathan is going one better."

Jonathan, 76, is renowned for his performance on stage and in film and television and has been Vice President of the choir, which was founded in 1933, for a number of years.

The actor, who was nominated for an Oscar for his turn as Pope Francis, and acclaimed for his role as the High Sparrow in Game Of Thrones, has been previously recognised for services to drama and charity.
