A REGIMENTAL GOAT will join a Christmas Carol Concert to celebrate the volunteering and service of young people across Wrexham.

The goat - part of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers - will join the Cadets’ Carols for Christmas event at the William Aston Hall.

Organised by the Archdeacon of Wrexham and the High Sheriff of Clwyd, the concert will take place on Monday, December 4.

The concert will showcase the service of young people from across the region and will include music from the Salvation Army Band and the Rhos Orpheus Male Choir.

There will be an address to young people from the High Sheriff, the Honourable Kate Hill-Trevor and a Christmas message from the Venerable Dr Hayley Matthews.

Cadets from various uniformed services will do the readings and a series of short films will highlight some of their work.

The Archdeacon of Wrexham, Dr Matthews, who took up her post in March 2023, is also Padre to 2279 Wrexham Royal Air Force Air Cadets. She said: “The High Sheriff and I are very impressed by the voluntary work many of our young people undertake as unsung heroes."

She added: "This is often against a backdrop of negative stereotyping around youth and young adults in the media.

“We are passionate about celebrating all that our young people do here in Wrexham City and more widely across the country of Wrexham. We hope to encourage other young people to be inspired to join these life-enhancing opportunities for personal development, employability, and community contact with their peers.

"This is vital post-pandemic as many children, isolated through three of their formative years, learn to inhabit an ever-changing world with resilience, positivity, and optimism.”

All of Wrexham’s (county-wide) military cadets, police cadets, Young Influencers (AVOW), GAPPERS (Wrexham’s ‘Mind-the-Gap’) and their families have been invited to the event which is free to attend.

Donations taken on the night will support the High Sheriff’s charity, The Blue Light Charity, Wrexham Food Bank and the Food Pantry at St Mark’s Church in Caia Park.

Tickets for Cadets’ Carols for Christmas are available from William Aston Hall.
