WREXHAM'S mayor was on hand to open a new restaurant in the city.

Pepe's Piri Piri opened the doors of its latest restaurant on Regent Street, Wrexham, on Tuesday (November 28).

The popular chicken chain has more than 180 stores across the UK, but this is the first in Wrexham.

Plans were submitted to Wrexham Council earlier this year, with a grand opening taking place on Tuesday afternoon. The restaurant will open to the public on Wednesday (November 29).

The Leader:

Wrexham's mayor, Cllr Andy Williams, formally opened the restaurant with the traditional cutting of the ribbon.

Afterwards, he said: "It's lovely to see a derelict, unused shop brought back to life. It's a fantastic brand, and it's in a perfect location - close to the football ground and Wrexham University and just outside the city centre. Two of the major roads into Wrexham pass it, so it should do really well.

"I for one will certainly be popping in."

He added: "Wrexham is on a big upward curve. What's happened to the football club has undoubtedly influenced it. We have many different businesses, companies and traders that want to do business with Wrexham - both locally, nationally and internationally.

"It really is a place that everyone wants to invest in. It's not all going to happen really quickly, there are long-term projects in the pipeline. The Wrexham Gateway project is going to see £50 million spent on this very area where we are now."

A spokesperson for the new store said: "Pepe's Piri Piri is excited to become a part of the Wrexham community, offering a unique spot for individuals and families to gather and enjoy our renowned healthy grilled food.

"As a business with over 180 stores across the United Kingdom, we take pride in providing a welcoming environment for various occasions, from family outings to business meetings."

They added: "The positive response we've received thus far has fueled our enthusiasm, and we look forward to showcasing the efforts we've put into providing high-quality, healthy food for the community to enjoy.

"We can't thank Wrexham's mayor enough for coming down to open the restaurant and share in this special moment with us."
