THE CHRISTMAS lights switch on at Eagles Meadow went down a treat over the weekend and there are plenty more events to come across Wrexham. 

In the build-up to Christmas, there are a number of markets and other events taking place to get people in the festive spirit. 

On Saturday (November 18) hundreds of people gathered to watch the lights switch on at Eagles Meadow in the city centre. 

Over the next few weeks there are set to be a host of similar switch-on events in villages across Wrexham. 

On Friday night (November 24) Johnstown will be hosting its annual switch-on event from 5.30pm.

There will be over 20 stalls, Santa's Grotto, raffle prizes as well as hot food and mince pies.

Santa's Sleigh will be arriving along High Street leaving Vauxhall Industrial Estate - Brandy Brook and High Street.

Cllr David A Bithell, Chair of the Committee said: "Our annual lights switch on - hopefully brings communities together and raises money for local community groups. Pleased to continue our event and lights switch on as well as the choir from Ysgol Yr Hafod who will be singing Christmas carols."

A road closure will be in place from 5.30 until 8.30 from the junction of Offa Street to the junction of Chapel Street (access for residents maintained).

On Friday, December 1, Bangor on Dee will be holding its lights switch-on. 

The event is set to start at 4.30pm at St Dunawd's Church. There will be a lantern parade led by Ysgol Sant Dunawd from the school to the church where there will be lots of festive fun.

From carols under the stars to mulled wine and mince pies, organisers say everyone is welcome. 

Then on December 8, Offa Community Council has teamed up with Fairevent management for their light switch on at Bellevue Park. 

A weekend of Christmas Markets and festivities will be kicked off by the annual light switch-on. 

Proceedings will get underway at 3pm on the Friday (December 8) with the light switch on set to take place at around 6.30pm.
