THE MARQUEE at the Turf was broken into overnight.

The landlord at the popular pub in Wrexham, Wayne Jones, initially announced on social media that the marquee will not be open tomorrow (November 11). 

The pub has risen to fame following its inclusion in the docu-series Welcome to Wrexham, with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney big fans of Wayne and his team.

Following a break-in overnight, in which a large amount of equipment was damaged, Wayne took to social media to say the marquee would be closed tomorrow. 

He said: "Apologies in advance but our Marquee will be closed tomorrow.

"Seems some scumbag thought it appropriate to break in and damage the majority of our equipment.

"Only the pub open tomorrow so arrive early if you want to visit. Feeling a tad deflated."

However, Wayne has since given an update that work is already underway to fix up the marquee ready for tomorrow, where Wrexham host Gillingham in League Two at the SToK Cae Ras.

Wayne added: "Scrap my negativity.

"Long day ahead but technician on route, clean up already under way and we WILL be open tomorrow.

"Music heater and cold beer will be served in the Marquee. See you tomorrow."

However, following a fire in the pub today, Wayne confirmed that the pub will be shut until further notice.

Following the initial post, Wayne received a number of comments of support from the community.

One person said: "So sorry to read this. I was lucky enough to visit The Turf on Sunday night. Lovely pub, great atmosphere. I can’t comprehend why anyone would want to damage your property."

Another added: "So sorry to hear this. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and reopening!"
