THE NEW owners of a village pub have revealed when it will reopen as it undergoes a major revamp.

The Leader reported on Wednesday (November 8) that The Cross Keys, in Llanfynydd, is set to reopen in memory of former patron, Mark Steene. The 54-year-old sadly died six years after a cycling accident left him paralysed.

Mark's close friends, Andrew and Gwenan Roberts, taken on the running of the pub after wanting to do something in his memory.

They said the pub has a "special place in all our hearts" and that they are " so pleased" to have given it a new lease of life.

His sister Mandy said: "Mark made me his beneficiary and I pondered how to best deal with that inheritance. My heart wanted him, not his money.

"After a long time just sleeping on it, my head decided I wanted to do something lovely for him and his special place, Llanfynydd.

"So, we collaborated with Mark's close friends Andrew and Gwenan Roberts and came up with a dream plan to buy the village pub together and do our best to bring life and lustre back into the charming building for all of Mark's community and friends to enjoy."

They have said the bar will be the ‘hub’ as you walk in, with a good selection of lagers, ales, cider and Guinness on the pumps, along with a ‘sweetie shop’ of a back bar - jam packed with bottles.

The rooms around the immediate bar area, will have a ‘pubby’ vibe; quarry tiles, oak parquet flooring and roaring fires. The room fondly referred to as the ‘Tartan bar’ has opened up beautifully, with exposed beams and ceilings, and they've extended things to create extra dining space, with a cosy little ‘nook’ area, seating eight comfortably.

They have completely re-done the kitchen area, and the toilets are undergoing a complete facelift.

Outside, they're extending the terrace, with comfortable seating, along with adding a little heat and light.
