A VARIETY of historical artifacts found in Wrexham and Flintshire have been declared treasure. 

At Ruthin County Hall on Monday (October 9), Assistant Coroner for North Wales (East & Central), Kate Robertson declared five items as treasure at an inquest. 

The five items were discovered across Wrexham and Flintshire in recent years. 

Some of the newly declared treasures include a Medieval brooch, gold and silver rings and a silver seal matrix.

The silver seal matrix was discovered by Paul Davis on March 15, 2020, while he was metal-detecting on arable land in Gwersyllt Community, Wrexham. Dating to the 17th or early 18th century, the seal-matrix has two flat faces each engraved with personalized designs, which swivel from a decorated frame handle.

IN OTHER NEWS: 

A Medieval silver annular brooch was discovered by Robert Jones on September 21, 2022, while he was metal-detecting on arable land in Rossett Community, Wrexham. The brooch, with a complete pin, is decorated with grooves inlayed with black niello and it dates to between the later 12th century to the 14th century AD.

Wrexham County Borough Museum & Archives has expressed an interest in acquiring both items above, following the independent valuation by the Treasure Valuation Committee.

A silver pin was discovered by Robert Craig Jones on March 15, 2021, while he was metal-detecting on arable land in Rossett Community, Wrexham. The pin fragment, of bodkin-type form, is of 16th or 17th century date.

A gold finger ring was discovered by Peter Evans on November 23, 2021, while he was metal-detecting on a field under pasture in Llanfynydd Community, Flintshire. The gold posy ring, dating to the 17th century, has the motto MY HART IS YOVRS engraved around its internal surface.

A silver-wire finger ring was discovered by Nathan Cunningham on November 28, 2021 while metal-detecting during a rally on land under pasture in Marchwiel Community, Wrexham. The ring, dating to the late 17th or early 18th century, has a spiral-shaped knot forming a circular decorative bezel.
