IT MAY have been a grey day for their opening but the newest arrival to Broughton Shopping Park is anything but dull.

As expected from the iconic British brand, Lush Broughton is wall to wall colour and fun. There is something to pique your interest everywhere you look.

The store itself is a beautiful space, and while there's much to take in, it's not overwhelming. And it smells gorgeous!

This is all a deliberate design by Eva Aldous, who took pride in explaining how everything is created with an ethical approach, all recycled plastics - even the counter tops are made for recycled yoghurt pots - and the sparkle in some of their products is plastic-free glitter.

The store is broken up into zones, such as body care, gifting, fun, and the party corner. That's right, from children's birthdays to hen parties, an event can be tailormade to make sure everyone has a memorable experience.

Customers can even make their own Toby's Magic Cow bath bomb, which changes colour in the water. I get a demonstration of their incredibly popular Intergalactic bath bomb, and it's a visual treat with a beautiful scent too.

The bath bomb was invented by Lush co-founder Mo Constantine in 1989, and it's been a big hitter ever since. There's a whole wall of bath bombs to choose from, and let's be honest, if you leave Lush without a bath bomb, did you even go to Lush?

And there is always something new, such as the current collections featuring SpongeBob and Wes Anderson collaborations.

Staff are key to any retail venue, and the team at Lush Broughton were raring to go.

Led by store manager Alex Huntley, these are the people who can guide you, explain products, and ultimately help make sure you leave with the right thing for you.

Alex, 29, who has relocated from London to Flintshire for their new role, has worked for Lush since 2015, when they started as a seasonal sales assistant.

They said: "I found out I'd got the job back in March, and I'm just so excited. I've missed it, I'm meant to be on the shop floor!

"And now to have my own store, it's finally time."

The huge crowd outside couldn't agree more. With the first 100 customers being promised a goodie bag, the queue was huge, almost the length of the retail park. People eager to get a first look at the 11am opening, had started waiting from 9.30am.

With emphasis on sustainability - even packaging is kept to a minimum - Lush aspires to leave the world in a better place than it found it.

And despite being the new kid on the block at the Flintshire shopping outlet, it looks like it's going to be around some time yet to help maintain that message.
