A MUM of three from Flintshire says she has been 'overwhelmed' by the response to her braving the shave in support of a young friend.

James Hamill, from Broughton, was diagnosed with alopecia in March of this year and has begun to lose his hair.

When one of Rhian Harrison's sons came home from school upset at not being to help his friend with his new condition, she set about planning a way of support.

Rhian eventually decided to shave her head to raise money for Alopecia UK.

A GoFundMe page was set up by Rhian with a target of £500, which has now raised over £1,500.

The shave took place on Sunday (July 16), with Rhian 'amazed' at the support she's been shown.

She said: "The only way I could help was to do some sort of charity event.

"We hit the target three times, I'm overwhelmed and shocked by the reaction we've had to it.

"I never thought we'd hit £500, never mind £1,500, I've cried every time we've passed the target, it's emotional.

"The fact we've had that many donations during a cost of living crisis is emotional too, we've had a number of donations from complete strangers which has been amazing.

"I don't mind shaving my hair, I've done it before, but it shows James that it doesn't matter what you look like, it's about what's on the inside and I'm a big believer of that."
