Jump, Jiggle, and juggle into the Summer Reading Challenge!
From this coming week participants of the Summer Reading Challenge - Ready Set Read! can take part in some free exciting activities in our libraries. The Boffins from the Xplore! Science Discovery Centre in Wrexham will be in your local Aura Library to show you lots of exciting sport science experiments to amaze you, your friends and family.
We are delighted to welcome Salma's Bollywood Dance Academy to our Libraries for the first time this summer. Summer Reading Challenge participants - and their families… will enjoy professionally trained and skilled teachers to guide them step by step on how to move and groove to the Bollywood beats. You are bound to create lots of amazing memories, learn a new skill and have lots of fun!
Each week your local library will also be holding a free craft session - this week we will be making balloon juggling balls - we'd love to see your juggling skills at the Summer Reading Challenge award ceremonies in September!

Get Fit, Fed and Read this summer with Aura
Families are invited to come along to our free community days, Fit, Fed and Read, a campaign that seeks to promote change in the lives of young people and create opportunities.
For a number of years Aura has taken part in a nationwide campaign called 'Fit and Fed', created by Street Games, a UK-wide organisation that uses sport to create positive change in the lives of disadvantaged young people. The original aim of the scheme was to create opportunities for physical activity, and promote a healthy diet by providing free healthy snacks at the end of each session.
Aura decided to add an additional library element to the sessions which focuses upon reading and creativity, forming Fit, Fed and Read. Combining library and leisure activities together, the sessions ultimately aim to emphasise the importance of keeping minds, as well as bodies, healthy.
Come along to the library tent where families can join the library, participate in the Summer Reading Challenge and have a go at some free activities and crafts.
The sessions are held each week for five weeks starting from Monday, July 24 to August 25, at the following locations:

Summer Volunteering- Reading Hack 2023
There is still time become a Reading Hack volunteer at your local Aura library. If you are aged between 13 and 24 and have a passion for volunteering, libraries, or your local community - get in touch!
As a Reading Hack volunteer you will:
• Learn new skills and gain experience for your CV
• Meet new people and have fun
• Help deliver activities and events
• Get accreditation towards DoE and Welsh Baccalaureate
• Help others enjoy reading

The Carnegies
The winner of the Carnegie Medal for writing has been announced. The Medals are judged by children's librarians and award and celebrate the best in children's writing. Aura Libraries are delighted that the winner of the Carnegie Medal for Writing is The Blue Book of Nebo by Manon Steffan Ros is a young adult novel which was originally published in Welsh and is set in post-apocalyptic Nebo on Anglesey.

Dylan was six when The End came, back in 2018; when the electricity went off for good, and the 'normal' 21st century world he knew disappeared. Now he's 14 and he and his mam have survived in their isolated hilltop house above the village of Nebo in north-west Wales, learning new skills, and returning to old ways of living. Despite their close understanding, the relationship between mother and son changes subtly as Dylan must take on adult responsibilities. And they each have their own secrets, which emerge as, in turn, they jot down their thoughts and memories in a found notebook - The Blue Book of Nebo. In this prize-winning novel, Manon Steffan Ros not only explores the human capacity to find new strengths when faced with the need to survive, but also questions the structures and norms of the contemporary world.
