FLINTSHIRE COUNCIL is looking to address issues of parking outside schools after police received reports of 'dangerous' drop-offs.

In recent months, South Flintshire police have been conducting numerous patrols across schools in the area following 'reports of inconsiderate and dangerous parking outside schools at pick up and drop off times'.

More than 10 schools have had police patrols take place since the end of May, with issues seeming to continue.

Those schools include:

  • Southdown Primary School in Buckley
  • Sychdyn Primary school
  • Ysgol Mynydd Isa
  • Broughton Primary school
  • Ysgol Bryn Gwalia
  • Ysgol Glanarafon in Mold
  • Hawarden High school
  • Penyffordd primary school
  • Ysgol Bryn Coch in Mold
  • Treuddyn primary school
  • Ysgol Gynradd Brychdyn

Following the patrols, a South Flintshire Police spokesperson said: "We are continuing to receive reports of inconsiderate and dangerous parking outside schools at pick up and drop off times.

"Officers patrolled the area and advised motorists about the dangers of parking inconsiderately outside schools. Patrols will continue over the coming weeks - please be mindful when picking up or dropping off children at school.

"Please remember, road markings are there for a reason and help to keep everyone safe."

The authority say they are aware of the ongoing issues outside of schools and are hoping to address them moving forward.

Katie Wilby, Flintshire Council’s Chief Officer for Streetscene and Transportation, said: “Flintshire County Council is aware that schools across the county sometimes have parking issues at drop-off and pick-up times. Streetscene and Transportation work directly with local members and the schools to identify their specific issues and look to provide approaches to alleviate problems at peak times through measures such as improvement schemes, development of active travel routes, parking restrictions and enhanced enforcement.

"In addition, in March 2023, the Education, Youth and Culture Overview and Scrutiny Committee approved the creation of a joint Task and Finish Group in order to explore the issues with parking outside schools in further detail and develop a collaborative and preventative approach with key stakeholders.”
