SEVERAL Wrexham charities are set to benefit from thousands raised at a community event.

The fundraiser was held at Plough Inn, Gresford, raising an impressive £12,000 for a wide range of charities in the area – of which £11,331 has been earmarked to be donated to the event’s partner charity, the Wrexham Prostate Cancer Support Group.

More than 500 residents from Marford and Gresford supported the event, with just about every business contributing by providing programme adverts, plus raffle and auction prizes.

A huge bonus was having the entire event sponsored by Steve Griffin, managing director of SG Estates.

Youngsters enjoyed a fun fair, football games, sideshows, facepainting and a magician. Some top class entertainment was provided throughout the evening by Blue Art, Carl Harrison and Luke Harrison.

The Wrexham Prostate Cancer Support Group has more than 60 members and are keen to offer support to those men in Wrexham and surrounding area who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer or think they have symptoms.

The group meets at the Trevor Arms, Marford on the first Wednesday of the month, except in August.
