A TALENTED artist has generously donated a piece to the Cats Protection’s Wrexham Adoption Centre for a raffle to help raise much needed funds.

Zara-lea Field, 22, was inspired to create her painting after chatting with Cats Protection’s Operations Manager, Vicki Small, about their shared love of felines.

An art and design graduate, Zara produced the striking painting at a live event where an audience saw her vision come to life.

Her work can fetch up to £400 a piece.

Zara said: “One of my female cats which we rescued played a part in inspiring me for this painting as she was a street cat fending for herself, and now she is the queen of the home.

"The other cats don’t mess with her and respect her, she’s very independent and scrappy, very loving to us humans and also so beautiful.

“And that led me to think about and take inspiration from street cats and why I chose to paint matted fur but make it stylish.

"I wanted to try and capture a different perspective of a scrappy cat that was an unnatural colour and goddess like in order to disconnect from status and breeds.

“While thinking about how I wanted the cat to look special and unearthly I thought about the mindset of the ancient Egyptians and how they viewed cats, which is why I decided to have gold in the piece too."

“Money raised from the raffle will go a long way to helping the cats and kittens in our care, some of which have not had a great start in life and require medical treatment and a great deal of attention to ensure they are ready to start their new lives with their adopted families.”

Entry to the raffle is £1 and can be purchased from www.areyoufelinelucky.cats.org.uk/wrexham/Art-Raffle

The raffle closes on July 3 and the winner will be chosen on July 10.
