A FUNDRAISER to support a Wrexham football club's futsal campaign has received support from some recognisable faces lately.

FC United of Wrexham, which has previously been supported by Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, is currently fundraising “to keep the club alive”.

The Wrexham sports club’s appeal for funds grabbed the attention of Reynolds – who co-owns the Welsh side Wrexham AFC with fellow actor Rob McElhenney – earlier in the year.

Reynolds donated £1,600 for new kits back in March, but the not-for-profit club now needs additional funding to continue operating.

Now, local poet Evrah Rose and renowned actors Stephen Walters, Angelos Epithemiou, and Gary Webster have shown their support for the futsal section as the club seeks to raise vital funds for its development.

All four have sent videos to the club to emphasize their support and back the fundraiser.

Actor Stephen Walters, who has starred in the likes of Silent Witness and Batman Begins, said: "FC United of Wrexham do wonderful work in terms of helping young kids and young adults, male and female, in futsal."

Gary Webster, recognised for his role in the classic television series "Minder," also echoed the importance of grassroots sports development.

He said: "They do fantastic work within the community. Unfortunately, I'm not Ryan Reynolds, but if you can give anything you can or just check out their Twitter account, I'm sure they'd be very grateful. Good luck to the 'other Wrexham'!"

Local poet Evrah Rose was another who has thrown her support behind the cause.

She said: "Football has the amazing ability to connect people from all walks of life. For children and young people, it offers them the opportunity to build their skills, their confidence, their self-esteem, their identity and team-working ability.

"It's incredible for that, but not only that, it offers children and young people a safe space. For me football is magic, and it's so, so important that FC United of Wrexham continues to keep offering those skills and that safety environment."

The club has also received a message from Angelos Epithemiou - the humorous and offbeat character from 'Shooting Stars' portrayed by comedian Dan Renton Skinner.

FC United of Wrexham founder and coach Andrew Ruscoe said: "The donations page set up by FC United of Wrexham aims to gather financial contributions to improve facilities, organise training programs, and support talented young players with resources and equipment necessary to excel in futsal.

"Each contribution, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference in shaping the future of this exciting sport at the grassroots level."
