THE all-star variety and music hall show was staged by three of Llangollen's best performance groups last month for earthquake survivors in Turkey and Syria.

Llangollen Twenty Club, The Collen Players and the Llangollen Operatic Society, joined forces for the first time to present the big show at Llangollen Town Hall over two nights on May, 11 and 12.

In total, they raised an impressive £4,700.

Proceeds came from tickets, donations, and raffle tickets and will all go to supporting the Disaster Emergency Committee. Fifteen other UK top charities have also come together to supply essentials and a lifeline to the thousands of survivors.

The Leader:

The earthquake took place on February, 6, devastating southern and central Turkey and northern and western Syria.

Phil Robinson, a spokesperson for the organising team, said: "The dreadful earthquakes which hit Turkey and Syria at the start of this year have now dropped down the news agenda but the plight of thousands of survivors who were left without homes or possessions is still very real.

“Performers, musicians and backstage crew drawn from each of the three groups were thrilled to be involved in the show and we had two fantastic nights with packed audiences on both.

"Since the show we’ve had lots of comments from people who saw it to say how much they enjoyed the show. Now I’m sure they’ll be as happy as we are to see how much we were able to raise.”

The Llangollen entertainers spent months organising the show which saw each of the groups showcasing their skills to packed audiences.

The Collen Players provided a taste of Victorian music, with their founder Lee Taylor acting as chairman for the show, whereas, the Twenty Club drama group presented comedy sketches - some specifically written for the occasion.

The Operatic performers performed numbers from the smash-hit shows Hamilton, Oliver and Les Miserables - so it really was a show to remember.
