• A FLINTSHIRE pub has been named the best in the Vale of Clwyd for a sixth time - and is now aiming for further success.

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has announced its list of best pubs in North Wales.

The Vale of Clwyd champion is again the Mold Alehouse, which is run by the husband and wife team of Rebecca and Gareth Jones and was opened in 2016.

Since then, the micropub has scooped the Vale of Clwyd award five times and also won the North Wales CAMRA pub of the year in 2017 - the year they also went on to be the third throughout the whole of Wales.

It then went on to become CAMRA Wales' Pub of the Year just last year.

Mold Alehouse will now battle it out with three other venues for the title of best CAMRA pub in North Wales.

Under CAMRA membership, North Wales and its eligible pubs are split into five areas:

  • Abercolwyn - which covers the Conwy county region and as Maerdy in Corwen.
  • Vale of Clwyd - which covers much of Flintshire and Denbighshire.
  • Gwynedd a Mon - which covers Gwynedd and Anglesey.
  • South Clwyd - which covers Wrexham and the east section of Flintshire.

Mold Alehouse's opponents in the battle to be crowned 'North Wales Pub of the Year' are:

  • Adelphi Vaults, Amlwch (Gwynedd a Mon CAMRA champion)
  • The Albion Alehouse, Conwy (Abercolwyn CAMRA champion)
  • Magic Dragon Brewery Tap, Wrexham (South Clwyd CAMRA champion)

CAMRA, who actively promote and advocate for 'proper' pubs across Europe, host a yearly vote amongst its members to decide which establishment will be named their 'pub of the year' - with area, regional, national and UK wide honours handed-out at every round of voting.

Mold Alehouse owners Gareth and Rebecca Jones were presented with their 'Vale of Clwyd CAMRA Pub of the Year' prize last month.
