TWO tea parties were organised by a Wrexham hospice, to recognise the contributions of its volunteers.

Hailing from border towns such as Oswestry and Whitchurch, as well as Wrexham, Flintshire, and East Denbighshire, Nightingale House Hospice volunteers took the opportunity to meet people from different areas of the hospice and learn more about their positive impact on daily services for people living with life-limiting conditions.

Trustee Chris Burgoyne, who attended the event at the Ramada Plaza in Wrexham, with Chirk Fundraising Group, said: "It was very plain to see that all the volunteers who attended thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will certainly have felt valued."

Shop volunteer Blanche Carrasco, from Oswestry, added: "I had a lovely time and enjoyed meeting with other volunteers and listening to the wonderful work carried out by the various teams within Nightingale House."

Jo Kearns, volunteer manager, said: "I have met many volunteers whilst at Nightingale House, and each and every one has shown me what it means to be a volunteer at the hospice.

"Volunteers offer something of themselves not through obligation but because they want to. People volunteer with the hospice because they recognise that even by helping out with the smallest of tasks, they can offer hope and make a real difference in people's lives.

"We have a strong team of over 400 volunteers, but we always welcome more individuals who are willing to contribute their time and effort to Nightingale House.

"Volunteers are the lifeblood and backbone of the hospice. They contribute to the organisation by allowing the hospice to extend its services, allowing teams to reach greater patient numbers, extend hours of operation, and diversify the types of services we offer patients and their families at Nightingale House."

Whilst some volunteers couldn't attend either of the events, Nightingale House intends to continue the celebrations throughout Volunteers Week (June 1-7). For more information, email rachelle.mclachlan@nightingalehouse.co.uk
