A train service from Cardiff to Wrexham has been put on following raised concerns of fans getting home from a Welsh international.

Wales are set to play Armenia at the Cardiff City Stadium on June 16 in a Euro 2024 qualifier.

The game has sold out, with over 33,000 fans set to watch on as Rob Page's men look to take a step closer to the tournament in Germany.

However, concerns were raised over a lack of transport for Welsh fans from north Wales after no trains were scheduled to be running.

Former Wrexham AFC Director Spencer Harris, who played a key role in launching the 'Stadium for the North' bid said: "On 16th June Wales play Armenia in a sell out game in Cardiff. BRILLIANT!

"However there are ZERO trains to get people back to North Wales after the match. Shouldn’t we be demanding better from @tfwrail?

"If we want people to buy into a greener future and less car journeys and not spend on roads, there has to be a service and reasons to believe."

Transport for Wales has since added a direct service from Cardiff to Wrexham after the game.

The train is set to leave Cardiff at 10.09pm arriving in Wrexham at 00.56am.

A Transport for Wales spokesperson said: “We’ve strengthened our rail services with an additional service to Wrexham after the Wales V Armenia game on June 16.

“In the past, we provided additional coaches but have had to review this due to lack of demand.  It was a pilot scheme and is currently being evaluated.

“We’re working collaboratively with the FAW to plan for the future and how we can work together to provide additional transport.”
