A POLICE Inspector has slammed people who attacked four officers over the course of a busy bank holiday weekend.

Flintshire North Inspector Wesley Williams told the Leader that while there had been no major incidents, his teams were sent to a number of public order and domestic incidents between Friday and Monday.

He added: "We have had several people arrested, during which four officers have been assaulted.

"This is totally unacceptable and they will be dealt with robustly.

"Officers come to work to do their job and make the community safe - they shouldn't be expected to tolerate this sort of behaviour.

"The officers themselves are being supported in work and from a welfare perspective."

Wayne Jones, Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for North Wales, said: "The officers and staff of North Wales Police do their duty day-in, day-out serving the public, and I know that the vast majority of people support and are grateful to them for everything they do to keep us safe.

"This is especially true during times like the recent Bank Holiday weekend, when the sunny weather and half-term holiday meant our towns and villages were very busy with visitors and residents, most of whom were enjoying the fine weather and atmosphere appropriately.

"But I am deeply disappointed and saddened to hear that a number of officers were assaulted in the line of duty and I hope that those responsible will be dealt with accordingly in due course.

"No one should be injured in the course of simply doing their job, it’s unacceptable in whatever industry someone works.

"But this is especially the case for those we all rely on to keep us out of harm’s way and who are always on the front line for us when we need them.”
