A ‘Zombie’ is heading for Wrexham this summer, stuffed full of caviar and some of the world’s finest champagne.

The Zombie is a vintage Class 57 diesel locomotive that will be taking passengers for a slap-up lunch trip aboard Britain’s most luxurious train.

Trainspotters and railway enthusiasts nicknamed these locomotives Zombies – or Bodysnatchers – because they were rebuilt from earlier Class 47 engines.

This Zombie will be hauling the Northern Belle’s 1930s Pullman-style carriages which once formed part of the iconic Orient Express train.

It will take some 200 passengers for a six-hour slap-up lunch or afternoon tea trip through the North Wales countryside on Friday, June 23.

Actor Bill Nighy described the Northern Belle as the “Grand Dame of luxury travel” during Channel 5’s “The World’s Most Scenic Railways” programme.

It was also voted as the most luxurious is Britain by readers of the Condé Nast Traveller magazine last year.

Passengers will board over a red carpet at Wrexham station before being handed their first glass of champagne.

Then they will have the choice of a slap-up seven-course lunch or a traditional afternoon tea with delicious sandwiches, cakes and home-baked scones.

The Northern Belle will return to Wrexham in September, with a special steam trip over the spectacular Settle-Carlisle line.

There are also plans for a tie-up with Flying Scotsman on a never-to-be-forgotten journey to Edinburgh.
