Wrexham has been celebrating thanks to the league winning match on Saturday (April 22), with many hoping it brings more life back into the centre.

Mark Roberts, the managing director of Wrexham Lager said that the success of the club has put them on the world stage and although they were selling lager internationally beforehand, now they have a wider audience.

He said: “The atmosphere from the first minute, even when we went down one nil, I thought was unbelievable because everyone just kept going and getting behind the team and thank god they did it.

“It’s massive for the town and now we seem to be an international destination for tourism - it's brilliant.

“I think due to the filmstar involvement and the documentary that’s been done I can only see a bigger destination, more tourism. We need more hotel rooms I think, we need to sort out the centre of the town and make it more presentable somehow and onwards and upwards.”

Timothy Steel, who owns Chevron in the city centre, has been printing Wrexham-themed shirts and now has ‘champions’ themed shirts which have been selling out online and in-store.

He said he wished that there had been a fan zone in the centre but nonetheless, Wrexham was bouncing, comparing it to the Euros in 2016 when Wales played well.

As a business, they have “jumped on the bandwagon” of the Wrexham AFC spirit he said and thinks that more Wrexham businesses should do the same as the future of the city and club go hand in hand.

He said: “We’ve sold thousands of t-shirts and we’ve had one back. So, I’m chuffed to bits.

“It will continue now, because they’ll want to go straight up (the leagues).”

George Powell is a lifelong Wrexham fan and season ticket holder.

He said: “Absolutely amazing, we’ve done some pretty horrendous journeys over the last few years to some grounds that you wouldn’t want to go back to.

“What Rob and Ryan have done is absolutely amazing, can't thank Humphrey Ker enough for bringing them to our ground and our club and the backroom staff Fleur (Robinson), Shaun Harvey they’ve all worked so hard to make this happen. It's not just on the pitch it's everything in the community.”

He explained that the success has brought a “feelgood feeling” back to Wrexham.

He added: “They’re putting in the right footing to build a successful club, not just on the pitch but in the community.”

George also owns the Wrexham Miners Rescue Station, where a team of volunteers is helping to save and restore the historic building, which has seen international interest recently due to its close proximity, and history, to the club.

Following the match on Saturday, a £500 donation was made by Humphrey Ker to support roof repairs, and George said the club's support has brought in well over 100 to 250 people through the door a week.

Now fans will be looking forwards to more celebrations in the coming weeks as Wrexham get ready to take on the football league for the first time in 15 years.

Wrexham Council have also confirmed that they will work with the club to help celebrate the success.

A spokesperson for Wrexham Council said: “Obviously this is a fantastic moment for Wrexham, and we’ll liaise with the club to see how we can support any plans to celebrate its phenomenal success.”

One thing that everyone has shared is their hope of Notts County winning the play-offs, who gave Wrexham a title race to remember with both clubs breaking records achieving over 100 points.

Let's hope Wrexham will get the chance to play them again next year, good luck Notts County!
