ISSUES with parking fines at a retail park in Wrexham have 'surely affected business', according to an MS.

Island Green is home to several large retailers, including Wilko and even the Wrexham Central train station.

Problems surrounding parking fines have been ongoing for a number of years at the car park there.

Wrexham MS Lesley Griffiths recently called for improvements to be made, adding that Euro Car Parks - who manage the site's car park - 'conduct remains a concern'.

Now, the MS has provided a further update to residents being affected by the issues.

She says that 'correspondence' is ongoing with Euro Car Parks and has raised the matter of the effect the issues will 'surely' be having on business.

The MS added that she continues to be contacted by her constituents about the fines and is now contacting businesses for their feedback on the issue.

Lesley Griffiths MS said: "Problems have persisted at the privately-operated Island Green Shopping Centre car park for several years.

"Regular readers will be aware of my ongoing correspondence on this matter and I continue to be contacted by constituents, and people who live outside my constituency but shop in Wrexham, who have received parking charge notices from operators, Euro Car Parks (ECP).

"I have made representations to the Leader of Wrexham County Borough Council, The British Parking Association (BPA) and of course, ECP themselves.

"‘Minor’ and ‘major’ keying errors still appear to be a problem and I have called on ECP to service their machines as a matter of urgency.

"As people often tell me they will not be returning or using the car park again, I have now written to all retailers on Island Green as I would be interested in their feedback.

"The difficulties have surely affected business, possibly impacting footfall and/or customer satisfaction.  I have offered to make representations on their behalf and will continue to keep constituents updated."

Problems with fines at the Island Green car park have been taking place since around 2019.

Euro Car Parks has been approached for comment on a number of occasions, but have so far not responded.
