A GEOGRAPHY teacher from Wrexham has introduced a world map to show where in the world Reds fans are based.

The takeover of Wrexham AFC by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in early 2021 and the 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary have helped put the club and the city on the map.

With that, has come new supporters from all over the world, with many even travelling to the Racecourse to witness the Reds play in person.

Now, a Georgraphy teacher from Wrexham is doing his bit to bring all the worldwide fans together via an interactive map.

Ian Roberts, from Bradley, introduced the Google Map to his Twitter page on April 3.

He invited Wrexham fans to enter their general locations onto it to chart where in the world they are cheering the club on from.

The response to the Tweet has been 'amazing' according to Ian, who is a teacher at Blacon High School in Chester.

Over 2,000 people across the world have so far entered their locations onto the map which can be accessed here.

Ian, who has been a Wrexham fan since watching his first match v Roma in 1984, said: "I created the map out of curiosity and also have been creating some lessons on 'globalisation' and have used Wrexham as an example.

"For some reason some of my Chester supporting pupils were initially reluctant!

"The response has been amazing, I was surprised at the extent of people and their locations (nearly 2,000 and rising) who contributed.

"I think this demonstrates how Wrexham AFC is becoming a global team. This is I believe, down to the positive input of the owners, players, staff and people of Wrexham."

The map even grabbed the attention of club co-owner Rob McElhenney, who said: "We are everywhere".

Ian added: "It also helps if a Hollywood star tweets about the project, thanks Rob for the help.

"One unexpected outcome has been how people have been making connections and attempting to organise fan get togethers.

"The map is a basic map, if a interactive map/app existed this could allow fan groups to be formed, such as the San Diego reds or Argentinan Reds groups.

"Overall, this has been a bit surreal but I am sure my pupils will be excited to learn just how popular our team has become."
