This is the first time the school have won this competition, and are very proud of all that the girls have achieved and wish them every success.

• Children worked with the Flintshire Swift Recovery Project and planted plant plugs to create a wildflower garden in front of the school, which will encourage swifts to nest in boxes that have been placed around the grounds.

This is part of a larger project to develop different wildlife areas around the school. The children were told lots of interesting information about the swifts, that will hopefully nest and return annually to the nests that they have placed.

Pupils from 7CWE enjoyed a recent visit to Ruabon Library. The trip was part of the school’s initiative to encourage more students to read for pleasure. Whilst at the library, students were given a tour, informed about the library’s book borrowing system and were given opportunities to read books that interested them.

They also participated in a book hunt, where they had to find certain books with specific genres, topics about Ruabon and Wales, and books from authors of diverse backgrounds.

The students loved being part of the Ruabon Library community, and many couldn’t wait to return. The school thanks all of the library staff who helped make the trip possible.

Recently, 20 students from Year 8 visited Wrexham Library, and another class are set to go to Cefn Mawr Library.

The students are appreciating and enjoying these new reading environments.

PUPILS at the primary school enjoyed a variety of activities along with their parents to celebrate Red Nose Day and raise funds for Comic Relief.

One of the regular 'explore together' sessions at Ysgol Maes Y Felin, which aim to give parents an opportunity to come into school and participate in activities with their children, coincided with the recent Red Nose Day.

Year 5 and 6 pupils made a number of Mr Men and Little Miss t-shirts with their parents, donating up to £1 each. Throughout the day the children also designed red noses, wrote their own Mr Men and Little Miss stories, and enjoyed learning all about the good causes, both home and abroad, that Comic Relief funding helps to support.

Teacher Rebecca Saunders said: "It was lovely to see parents and children working together on different activities and helping to raise money for this vital charity. It was a very enjoyable day and I would like to thank all the parents for coming along and getting involved."

The school raised more than £100 on the day for Comic Relief.

Youngsters from classes 2 and 3 at the school visited St Mary's Church in Chirk for the day. Easter gardens were created, they rang the bells and even looked for parallel and perpendicular lines around the Nave.

The children discovered a Roman soldier in the stained glass window and found out about the changes made to St Mary's Church during the reigns of Henry VIII and Queen Victoria.

A scavenger hunt and study of the headstones in the church yard were also part of the day, which ended with children singing a special song to parents in a service.

All at Ysgol Pentre CIW are grateful to everyone at the church for organising such an amazing day.
