THERE is a ‘little star’ that can ferry tourists across one of the most well-known destinations from next month until the end of summer.

Skippered narrowboat trips will be on offer from Saturday, April 1 across the UNESCO World Heritage Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, near Wrexham, on Anglo Welsh’s ‘Little Star’ (‘Seren Fach’ in Welsh) trip boat.

The 45-minute return trips take visitors along the Llangollen Canal and across the 38-metre-high historic aqueduct, to experience amazing views across the Dee Valley.

Anglo Welsh’s knowledgeable team provide commentary on board, so visitors can learn about the aqueduct and the history of the Llangollen Canal as they cruise gently along.

Carl Cowlishaw, operations manager for Anglo Welsh, said he and his staff are delighted at being able to offer the trips this summer.

The Leader:

He said: “Anglo Welsh has been providing canal boat holiday hire at Trevor for more than 55 years, and since then we’ve given thousands of people the chance to experience the thrill of travelling across the UNESCO World Heritage status Pontcysyllte Aqueduct by boat.

“So that even more people can enjoy this ‘bucket list’ experience, we started offering self-drive day boats for hire in the 1990s and in 2021 we launched our ‘Little Star’ skippered trip boat.

OTHER NEWS:

“We are delighted to announce that from 1 April to September 30, 2023, each day we’ll be offering five trips across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, making it a ‘must-do’ activity at this world-famous Welsh site, visited by tens of thousands of people each year.”

‘Little Star’ offers space for up to 48 passengers, with on-board café, food and toilet facilities, with visitors treated to some wonderful views of the valley, while local spots of interest are picked out for people.

This includes the same house that Thomas Telford lived in during the construction of the aqueduct he designed.
