A COMMUNITY Cupboard in Wrexham being used 100 times a week has recently benefitted from a generous school donation.

Paul and Claire Marshall from Rossett set up The Food Cupboard for Rossett after being involved with give to shine near Christmas.

After noticing the demand was there amid the cost of living crisis, the pair set up a food collection point at their house.

They also collate food parcels for those unable to venture out of the house using food collected from supermarkets across Wrexham.

The community cupboard was also boosted by a collection at St Peter's school in Rossett which saw over 1,000 items of food donated, in addition to 'generous' cash donations from parents.

The school now has two collection points on site for people to donate to throughout the year.

Paul, who alongside his wife Claire and a handful of local volunteers run the service, said that the demand has shocked him.

He said: "We spoke to the school and they agreed to do a non-uniform day to kickstart the awareness and it was a success, we've now got a foodbank full of items for people to use.

"That is thanks to lots of donations from local people and businesses.

"The cupboard is based in the garden and people can come and help themselves, we stay away because some people can get embarrassed.

"We're getting around 100 visits a week and that demand has shocked me.

"We recently had 50/60 people in one day following the school donation.

"It makes you wonder what people do if things like this aren't available, it's clear people are really struggling."
