THE CREATOR of the infamous Deadpool sculpture has spoken of his delight that the creation has found its 'forever home'.

Wrexham-based sculptor Simon O'Rourke created the masterpiece following the announcement that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were taking over as co-chairman of the football club.

Last week, the Leader reported that 'Deadpool' had found a new home at the Turf, under the stewardship of landlord Wayne Jones.

The sculpture was delivered at the pub on Saturday morning, prior to Wrexham's National League clash with Dorking Wanderers.

Now Simon has spoken about how the sculpture came to fruition.

He said: "I carved the sculpture in the first place simply because I love the character Deadpool!

"I decided to carve him wearing a Wrexham AFC shirt, and was inspired by the scene in the second movie where Deadpool gets ripped in half by Juggernaut.

"It's such a daft image I just had to carve it.

"I didn't have a plan with the sculpture but someone suggested auctioning it for charity, which was a great idea. We ended up with a raffle rather than an auction to give people who wouldn't normally be able to afford my work, to have the chance to own a unique sculpture."

The sculpture which took four days to create was eventually won by Steve Moore, who decided it belonged at the Turf, much to the delight of Simon.

He added: "I'm not a big football fan and would never pretend to be, but I love Wrexham and I was so excited to hear of the interest from Rob and Ryan in the club.

"It's been a real boost for the city and will continue to generate interest. I'm really happy the sculpture has found its forever home at The Turf, somewhere it will be appreciated!

"Wrexham has been my home since 1997 when I moved here, and it has a wonderful community spirit that I love."
