SATURDAY'S match at the Racecourse was nominated as their annual memorial fixture.

A minute’s silence was held before the game in memory of supporters and former who have sadly passed away in the last 12 months.

The following former players and club officials passed away in the last year:

Geoff Lloyd – 18/08/1942-04/02/2023

Geoff Lloyd caught the Wrexham selectors’ eyes with his performances for the Wales Amateur team, and signed for the Club in October 1966.

Initially signed as an amateur, he was thrust into the side after injury to David Powell and made an immediate impact with two goals against Chester City in a derby win at Sealand Road.

He turned professional two days later, and went on to play 16 times for Wrexham – scoring three goals – before his release at the end of the 1966/67 season.

Aled Owen – 07/01/1934-05/08/2022

Part of Sir Alf Ramsey’s Ipswich Town squad which won the Second Division in 1961 and were crowned Football League champions the following season, Aled Owen was actually born and raised in Anglesey.

The winger also played for Bangor City an Tottenham Hotspur, and made four appearances for Wrexham at the end of his career.

He subsequently took over the family’s haulage company, and in later life was revered for his vocal talents as tenor with the Chor Meibion Goronwy Choir, Benllech, Anglesey.

Colin Grainger – 10/06/1933-19/06/2022

Former England winger Colin Grainger was born just outside Wakefield but started his career with Wrexham – who he initially joined on the ground staff before turning pro in 1950.

A regular for the reserves, National Service limited his opportunities at Wrexham to just five senior appearances before he signed for Sheffield United for £2,500.

He won seven England caps in total, and also played for Sunderland and Leeds United among others, while his musical talents meant he earned the nickname, “The Singing Winger” – once sharing a bill with the Beatles!

Geoff Hunter – 27/10/1959-01/06/2022

As part of a 12-year career in the Football League, clocking up more than 500 league and cup appearances, Geoff Hunter played more than 100 times for Wrexham.

He turned pro at Manchester United, but made his name in midfield for first Crewe Alexandra and then Port Vale, before finishing his career at the Racecourse Ground.

He made just shy of 150 Wrexham appearances in all competitions, including the European Cup Winners’ Cup, and scored 14 goals.

Terry Darracott – 06/12/1950-22/03/2022

Best known for his 12-year career with Everton, Terry Darracott played a single season at the end of his career for Arfon Griffiths’ Second Division side in 1979.

He made 22 league and five cup appearances, but his association with Wrexham did not end there.

In 2008, Darracott returned to the Racecourse Ground as assistant manager under Dean Saunders, spending a further year with the Club before injury forced him to step away from the role.

Malcolm K Davies – 01/09/1947-10/02/2022

The club was saddened to learn that Honorary Vice President Malcolm K Davies passed away earlier this month.

Through his business - Adlink Advertising, Malcolm supported the club in many ways and was one of the founders of campaigns like  'Save Our Soccer' (SOS), which raised money for the club in the early-1980's, when we were going through yet another crisis and dropping rapidly from what is now the Championship to the bottom of League 2.

An avid and passionate supporter, even after ill health saw him move to the South Coast to live with family, Malcolm was described as a ‘true gentleman’ – an apt description, shared by those who knew him.
