AN INQUEST was held into the sudden death of a woman who suffered with chronic pain.

Sara Baines, aged 34, died at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd on September 19, 2022.

At County Hall in Ruthin on Thursday (February 16), an inquest was held into Miss Baines' death.

It heard that on September 18, she had been found hanged at her property on Chester Close in Flint by police officers after concerns had raised by family members for her safety.

CPR was conducted, and Miss Baines was rushed to hospital, but scans revealed she had suffered a hypoxic brain injury. She sadly died in the early hours of the following day.

A post-mortem examination found that Miss Baines had also taken a opioids medication at a high overdose level. A cause of death was ruled as cerebral hypoxia secondary to hanging and morphine overdose.

The inquest was told that Miss Baines, who was a support worker for people with learning disabilities, had a daughter - born in 2011.

She had suffered complications during childbirth and had subsequently undergone a hysterectomy. Miss Baines had also had surgical mesh implanted - which her family say caused her chronic pain.

The pain caused by the mesh severely impacted Miss Baines' mental health, and a procedure to remove it was postponed due to the Covid pandemic. She was due to have the operation to remove it in November, 2022.

Miss Baines' family described her as being "so lovely" with "the biggest heart" and someone who "always put everyone before herself".

John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales East and Central, recorded a conclusion of suicide.
