THE LATEST role for an actor originally from Deeside has seen him star on popular BBC show Casualty.

Macaulay Cooper is originally from Connah's Quay and is a former pupil of Golftyn primary and Connah's Quay High School.

Last year, he starred as drug dealer Tyler Quinn in six-part ITV series 'The Bay'.

That was the first official TV acting gig for Macaulay, but he has previously also appeared on the small screen in the past with the likes of Nike and McDonald's, as well as several theatre projects.

But eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted the up-and-coming actor on a hit BBC show over the weekend as he returned to our screens.

The 28-year-old appeared on Casualty as the character called James Head.

In season 35 episode 16 called 'Fight or Flight' - which aired over the weekend - James accompanies his friend Josh to hospital after he's attacked.

Speaking about the opportunity to appear on the show, Macaulay - who now lives in Manchester - told the Leader: "I had an audition last summer which came from my old agent and it was just a self tape that I recorded at my apartment. A week later, I was offered the role which was surprising because usually you expect to have at least a second audition.

"It’s pretty mad, I used to watch Casualty when I was younger and it’s been such a big show for years so it feels like a good accomplishment and when you look back at some of the actors who appeared in it at the start of their career it definitely feels like a step in the right direction."

Asked about watching himself on TV, he said: "I think it’s always going to feel weird and this one was especially so because we filmed it so long ago and it was a bigger role than my last TV role was."

Macaulay says he's now very much looking forward to what lies ahead in 2023 as he has just recently been signed to a new agent in the Manchester area.

He said: "It's a massive step up for me because of her reputation and the work she gets for her clients. I’ve got two independent films coming out this year and I’m working on a project with a director I’ve worked with a few times now - so I’m expecting 2023 to be an exciting year."

Having first fallen in love with acting at a young age, Macaulay cites Jake Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Heath Ledger, Joaquin Phoenix and Matthew McConaughey as actors he looks up to for inspiration.
