The Wrexham Prostate Cancer Support Group are based at the Trevor Arms in Marford and have monthly meetings to help those dealing with the illness.

They have held a number of fundraising efforts over the past year in a bid to secure specialist cancer equipment at the Maelor Hospital in Wrexham.

As cases of prostate cancer continue to be diagnosed across wales, the Wrexham support group are appealing to anyone affected to get involved.

Group secretary Phil Jones said: "I would like to make a passionate plea to the over 45’s male population in our region to come forward and get involved with our local support group.

"Our first aim is to ensure men have an awareness of the basic facts. It is rare for men under 45 to be affected, but the condition becomes more pronounced and common with age.

"More than 2,500 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer in Wales in 2022 and more than 600 men die year on year.

"An even more staggering statistic is that 1 in 5 men in Wales with prostate cancer are diagnosed too late for a cure.

"We now have over 50 men enrolled in our group and each one is prepared to share their particular prostate cancer journey.

"They will privately explain how they handled the news, share how they opted in choosing their treatment type, discuss what are the common side affects and above all else the emotional aspects which surround being told you have been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer."

The group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7pm, at the Trevor Arms in Marford and a warm welcome awaits on March 1.
