A Deeside man has filmed a music video for his song 'Rotten Shotton' filmed across the Flintshire town.

Alex Hughes, also known by the rap name 'Deeside Lyrics', age 34, has been writing and producing music for around 10 years as a hobby outside of his job working at a removal company in Deeside.

His songs are often inspired by the Flintshire area he lives in, specifically Deeside.

His new song 'Rotten Shotton' is no exception and features Alex singing the song as he films himself using a selfie stick around the town meeting local people.

Discussing his inspiration for the video, Alex said: "I had the idea for quite a while and then I just found the beat and wrote the lyrics one night, recorded it the next day and then bought a selfie stick and filmed it the following day."

Alex posted the music video on his facebook page on January 7, and it has since garnered over 870 comments and 1,300 likes.

Alex has even been recognised in the street following the release of the video via facebook and youtube and he said the feedback has been "crazy and good."

He continued: "I am just very appreciative of all the views and love that the video has gotten."

The video can be viewed on the Deeside Lyrics Youtube page here.

The title of the song 'Rotten Shotton' is featured several times throughout the song, however, Alex included this phrase for a different reason than some may think.

He said: "Rotten Shotton is what everyone has always said, so I made the video to show people it is not rotten and is actually a very positive place."

Alex agreed that the video, which includes the singer entering various venues across the town, is somewhat a love letter to Shotton.

The singer often sings at open mic nights at the Shotton Labour Club however hopes to perform his own gigs at some point in the future.
